GDC 2016: A Closer Look At PlayStation VR

Yesterday, we got the release details regarding the PlayStation VR and we now know when we are getting it. Now, let us take a closer look.

Sony has released some final product assets regarding their virtual reality headset. Of course, the final specs of the hardware have also been confirmed by the company. Also, we get a closer look at the VR demo package named PlayStation VR Worlds as well as the complete list of developers currently working on PSVR.

First and foremost, let us talk about the headset itself. Straight from the box, you get the hardware itself as well as all the cabling for it. Sony has released a few press assets to show off the headset from different angles. Here they are for all to admire:

The design of PlayStation VR hasn’t differed greatly, even when it was presented as Project Morpheus. Although it does seem the white and blue coloring is being highlighted. It has a somewhat futuristic yet modern look. Of course, the blue would only show when used as lighting effects whereas the hardware itself is only white and black.

Now, let us talk more tech. Sony has taken the liberty of sending the final specs numbers of the hardware and as mentioned in my last article, the final model is not so different from the latest prototype shown of the device. The headset is not so heavy weighing at 610g and the display will showing a total 1920XRGBX1080 (both eyes combined). The refresh rate is particularly interesting as it can max at 120Hz; meaning the headset may be able to support gaming at 120fps (which is amazingly smooth). Today, we are always hoping for 60 fps gameplay as it has become the standard.

Finally, we also got the chance of getting the full list of developers currently working on games among other things for the PlayStation VR. Of course, there are many known studios in this list and some lesser known ones as well. I would like to remind you all that Sony had previously announced that over 230 studios were working on PSVR. Therefore, this list is quite extensive. Without further ado, here it is:
