For a long time now, gamers have been patiently awaiting the release of Team ICO’s, The Last Guardian, the final chapter from their epic trilogy. Our hopes were collectively dashed, especially during E3, when the Sony conference neglected to mention anything about the abandoned title.
The Last Guardian has had is share of problems along the way, but Fumito Ueda’s departure from the project really was the straw that broke the camel’s back. His departure, combined with the fact that there was no mention of the title at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2012, have unfortunately confirmed our suspicions. According to Eurogamer, Sony Worldwide Studio president Shuhei Yoshida mentioned the title, saying “When we have confidence in saying that, we will talk about it. But today, we are working through some engineering effort.” If we translate that to “brutal honesty”, we think it means that the game will never see the light of day. Now all we have left, is a space on our gaming shelves where the game would have rested.
