The Zelda Team Is Considering Making a Spin-off Featuring Sheik

A lot of Zelda hype is flying all the over the place this week. We’ve only recently got to play the latest game and we get word of something new.

Indeed, the development team for The Legend of Zelda has put in so much effort into this new game. Yet, now many fans were also questioning why the inclusion of a female Link was not implemented. The reason behind this is that Shigeru Miyamoto wished to preserve the image of Link to the masses and Linkle would potentially change that forever. However, a Zelda game focusing on a heroine is not out of the question.

In fact, the Zelda team mostly agreed that if such a game would exist, it would have to focus on Sheik. For those of you who do not know, Shiek is the form Princess Zelda takes in Ocarina of Time in order to hide from Ganondorf’s dark reign once he had taken over Hyrule Castle. Sheik uses the secret ninja ways of the Sheikah tribe, the ones sworn to protect the royal family. After Ocarina of Time, Sheik has grown in popularity with her inclusion with Zelda as one character package in Super Smash Bros. Melee and has since become a pivotal member of the roster. Her lightning fast movements and stealth nature could be a great recipe for a game, especially after taking advantage of Breath of Wild’s climbing mechanic.

“Within the development team, too, there have been talks about how it might be cool to have a game that features Sheik as a protagonist. It’s having maybe a Zelda spin-off with Sheik as a protagonist, for example, I don’t think that’s an impossibility.”

This new game could easily focus on a moment in Ocarina of Time that is really interesting: The seven years where Link, the Hero of Time, is asleep in the Sacred Realm. We know that in that time, Zelda decided to go into hiding and learned the ways of the Sheikah tribe in order to defend the land as best she could. Diving into this mysterious part of Ocarina of Time could be a reason to revisit the world of this N64 classic and see it a whole new light. Nintendo, please do this!

Of course, this is all hypothetical as Miyamoto has only said that this could be a possibility. However, that does not mean this is something would actually attempt. Say they do, would you like to see a game focusing on Sheik? Or another female character like Impa, Midna or even Nabooru?
