Pokemon GX Mechanics Revealed
The Pokemon TCG constantly evolves and throughout the series and sets, it introduced, and removed, quite a number of interesting mechanics.
With the introduction of EX Pokemon, the game took a turn and decks became a lot more compelling and interesting to play. Following up were the Mega evolutions, the BREAK, and finally, the return of Dual-Type. With the introduction of the new Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon video games, a new mechanic will be added to the card game, GX.
Like EX, GX are stronger cards that, when knocked out, allow your opponent to take two prize cards. However, these new cards feature unique skill called GX. “Each Pokemon-GX has a maximum of two attacks in addition to its GX attack. Pokemon-GX have strong attacks and high HP, so they can overwhelm the opponent’s Pokemon without needing to rely on the GX attack.”
During Worlds, Lunala-GX and Solgaleo-GX were revealed:
Solgaleo GX – Metal – HP???
Ability: Ultra Road
Once during your turn (before your attack), you may switch your Active Pokemon with 1 of your Benched Pokemon.
[?] Sunsteel Strike: 230 damage. Discard all Energy from this Pokemon.
[?] Sol Burst GX: Search your deck for up to 5 Energy cards and attach them to your Pokemon. Then, shuffle your deck. (You can’t use more than 1 GX attack in a game.)
Lunala GX – Psychic – HP???
Ability: Psychic Transfer
As often as you like during your turn (before your attack), you may move a [P] Energy from 1 of your Pokemon to another of your Pokemon.
[?] Phantom Ray: 120 damage. The Defending Pokemon can’t be healed during your opponent’s next turn.
[?] Lunar Fall GX: Knock Out 1 of your opponent’s Basic Pokemon that isn’t a Pokemon GX. (You can’t use more than 1 GX attack in a game.)
We don’t have more details to share at the moment, but one thing is certain, this new mechanic will definitely push player to create interesting decks.
