RIGS Studio Guerrilla Cambridge Closes Doors
Sony announced that Guerrilla Cambridge, formerly SCEE Cambridge, will be closing their doors after 19 years of operations.
Guerrilla Cambridge, known for working on series like Killzone and the VR game RIGS, will have their studio shutdown by Sony. Formerly known as SCEE Cambridge, the studio in question will see its doors close following changes brought to the European structure.
“Within [Sony Interactive Entertainment’ Worldwide Studios, we have a regular process of review in order to consider projects coming to completion and the deployment of resources. In such a competitive landscape this enables us to continue to create and produce high-quality, innovative and commercially viable projects.”
“Having reviewed and assessed all current projects and plans for the short and medium term, we have decided that in order to deliver on our strategic objectives, it is necessary to make some changes to the European studios structure. As a result, is has been decided that Guerrilla Cambridge Studio will close.” – Sony to Eurogamer
The publisher added further details about the decision, claiming that it will lead to “compulsory redundancies”. It is important for the company to deliver premier content, even if it means getting rid of a studio…or even ongoing projects.
“It is regrettable that this decision will lead to compulsory redundancies. Whilst we accept that this decision mean that we risk losing high caliber staff, by focusing on other Studios with exciting new projects in development, (including continued work on PlayStation VR), we believe we will be in a stronger position going forward and able to offer the best possible content of the highest quality to our players.”
Details fail to mention what will happen to RIGS in the future. At the moment, nothing points toward a sequel. Stay tuned as we keep you updated.
