Dota, Pride and Prejudice.

The Dota 2 Shanghai Major’s group stage have begin. The dota is good, everything around is just terrible.

Group Stage of the Shanghai Major have been riddled with technical issues and drama.

Everything begins Wednesday when Ehome’s  player eLeVeN was stuck with an acute tooth infection and had to have it removed. Causing a 1 hour delay for the match of Team Secret Vs Ehome. Even after that, eLeVeN played his match, Ehome lost 2-0 to Secret in the lower bracket final of the group.

The second day of the group stage was a complete mess, the delay at one point was so important they had to open a second channel to play two match at the same time. Delay was around 2 hours and 45 minutes. Added to that; Valve sacked their star host James ‘2GD‘ Harding mid-stream, causing an uproar in the Dota 2 community. He was replaced by Jorien “Sheever” van der Heijden.

No official statement have been released about that from 2GD. But Gabe Newell personally took it to reddit with the following statement  :

Two things:

1) James. We’ve had issues with James at previous events. Some Valve people lobbied to bring him back for Shanghai, feeling that he deserved another chance. That was a mistake. James is an ass, and we won’t be working with him again.

2) As long as we’re firing people, we are also firing the production company that we’ve been working with on the Shanghai Major. They will be replaced, and we hope to get this turned around before the main event.

And finally, through out the first 3 days of the group stage, the community have been calling the Twitch stream ”Powerpoint doto” to emphasis the lag and major frame-per-second drop in each and every games. I would be willing to bet it is the last time we hear about ”Perfect World” on the  Esport scene. The Shanghai Major is presented by ”Perfect World”.

On the plus side, for those of you who could stand the lag. Games have been great. The result for Group A and B are as followed :

Group A :

  1. MVP.Phoenix
  2. Team Secret
  3. Ehome
  4. CDEC

Group B :

  1. Alliance
  2. Fnatic
  3. Team Spirit
  4. Vici Gaming

Let us hope that the everything will be fixed going into the Main Event next week-end.
