Overwatch League Grand Finals to be held at Barclays Center

It's time to separate the champions from the rest.

We can already hear the chants and feel the excitement as the Overwatch League’s regular season comes to an end. The post-season is almost upon us.

Today, the League has just released  details surrounding the upcoming Grand Finals of their inaugural season which will notably determine the champions of the world’s first global city-based esports league. No big deal. Among other things, it’s now been confirmed that the finals will be held at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, over July 27–28, 2018.

The road to glory

First things first, the Overwatch League regular season will end on Sunday, June 17. This will mark the beginning of a postseason which will begin with a field of six teams on Wednesday, July 11, at Blizzard Arena Los Angeles in Burbank, California. After the playoffs come to an end, our two finalists will battle it out in New York at the home arena of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets. What’s on the line? The finalists will be battling for a share of the $1.4 million USD prize pool as well as the historical Overwatch League trophy. The stakes are impressive.

The Grand Finals will also feature on-site fan experiences at the Barclays Center, culminating in the finals matches. The winning team must take two best-of-five series to claim the trophy. The finals matches begin Saturday, July 28, at 02:00 CEST and continues the same day at 22:00 CEST with the remaining series. However much time the finalists need, the crowd will happily oblige.

Nate Nanzer, commissioner for the Overwatch League, had this to say about the grand finals: “[It] will be an epic experience [which aims to be] the pinnacle of esports”. Having the opportunity to hold the finals at the Barclays Center, he continued, “will help us celebrate not only the league’s two best teams, but the fans, partners, and players who have joined us on this incredible journey”.
