PewDiePie Dropped by Maker Studios & Removed from Youtube’s Preferred Platform
Maker Studios was forced to cut down all ties with Youtube star Felix “PewDiePie” Kjellberg following the release of videos with offensive materials.
In 2016, PewDiePie earned a staggering $15 million. However, regardless of his popularity or income, Maker Studios took the decision to drop their affiliation with PewDiePie and cut down all ties with the artist. The latest videos posted features offensive and sometimes anti-Semitic content.
“Although Felix has created a following by being provocative and irreverent, he clearly went too far in this case and the resulting videos are inappropriate. Maker Studios has made the decision to end our affiliation with him going forward.” – Maker Studios
PewDiePie took action on the spot and replied to the issue.
“I was trying to show how crazy the modern world is, specifically some of the services available online. I picked something that seemed absurd to me – that people on Fiverr would say anything for 5 dollars.”
“I think it’s important to say something and I want to make one thing clear: I am in no way supporting any kind of hateful attitudes.” – PewDiePie
The story started off with the drop by Maker Studios, but things got a little further afterwards. Now, Youtube star PewDiePie has seen his channel and content removed from the Youtube Preferred advertising program for contravening rules on “advertiser-friendly content guidelines”.
“We’ve decided to cancel the release of Scare PewDiePie Season 2 and we’re removing the PewDiePie channel from Google Preferred,” said Youtube.
How this will affect the star? Can PewDiePie recover from such a hit on his channel and person? This isn’t the first time we have seen stars find themselves in that sort of predicament. However, this is an artist that has a great number of following, not to mention a large influence over the youth.
We will follow up on the story and see how things develop. Stay tuned for updates!
