What’s Your Hobby? Featuring Playboy’s Pamela Horton

For this second issue of “What’s Your Hobby?”, we were able to get a hold of Pamela Horton, Playboy’s Miss October 2012 and Playboy.com’s Gamer Next Door host. After meeting her in person during this year’s E3 conference, she has agreed to answer to a few of our questions. Before we get to that, allow me to introduce you to Playboy’s playmate, Miss Pamela Horton!

Although she might not look like much of a gamer to some, Pamela Horton is a certified video game addict. Growing up, she’s been playing SNES games with her father. “The moment I started playing I was immediately hooked,” stated Horton in her autobiography. As a model and host, her appearances in gaming-related events are gratifying to her and her fans, but as a die-hard gamer, she always finds the time to play her favorite games.

Pam Horton GND

Slimzz: How long do you play Video Games on a weekly basis?

Pamela Horton: If I do not play video games at least 5 hours a day, it’s an off day for me. If it’s not my 3DS, it’s my laptop or PC with League of Legends or FFXIV. 😀 Video games is my “me time” and also my favorite pastime.

Slimzz: Which franchises are your favorites, and why?

Pamela Horton: Legend of Zelda: It was the first game I ever played (Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past) and the ultimate RPG in my heart. Some titles I loved more than others, but they will always be a game I purchase. 🙂 Even when they make limited edition consoles (Wind Waker HD Wii U) or Handhelds (Ocarina of Time 3DS, A Link Between Worlds 3DS XL) I have to purchase them! 🙂

Pokemon: Ever since I got Pokemon Yellow with my matching yellow GameBoy Color, it’s always a franchise I get back to. I’m not a crazy Pokemon Master, but I love every generation. I even have the Pikachu 3DS XL. (Oh god, I’m obsessed…) My favorite Pokemon is Emolga! 😀

God of War: I’ve loved Greek Mythology since I was a youngun, and I also happen to like hack and slash combo games. God of War was the perfect combination of these. I only bought my PS3 because God of War 3 was exclusive. Had to have it, and I’m so glad I got it. I love Kratos and his painful/bad ass story!

My least favorite franchise though… Is actually Grand Theft Auto. I know this will get me a lot of hate, as a lot of people enjoy the game, but I just can’t bring myself to have fun with it. I don’t like stealing, breaking laws, picking up ladies of the night or getting into brawls and ratting people out to the police. I don’t like stuff like that in real life, and don’t like immersing myself in a game that simulates it. :S

Slimzz: Besides gaming, do you have any other hobbies you would like to share?

Pamela Horton: I absolutely love art and music. When I’m not playing video games, I’m listening to Spotify. This is usually accompanied by drawing or painting. Music is a major motivator in my art, and my daily life for that matter. I was raised around live music. My dad has been a bass player and vocalist for a blues and classic rock cover band since before I was born. Weekly band practice with my young friends growing up is also what influenced my gaming. I got my musical talent from my dad. I personally love to sing and play the ukulele and flute. Expression through art and music is essential to my emotional well-being. 🙂

Slimzz: Charmander, Bulbasaur, or Squirtle?

Pamela Horton: Oh, the timeless question. But since I played Yellow originally, I actually never had to choose in the beginning. (You got all three in Yellow and never had to pick >:D) But with Pokemon X, I chose Charmander because The Mega Charizard X evolution is incredibly bad ass.

Slimzz: During our encounter at E3, you mentioned being a Nintendo fan. Any titles you are particularly looking forward to?

Pamela Horton: Absolutely!! I cannot WAIT for A Link Between Worlds and the LE 3DS that’s coming out with it!! It’s a direct sequel to my first game ever. I would hate myself if I didn’t pick it up IMMEDIATELY. I’m curious about the new wall walking mechanic and I think it’s a very unique change to the franchise. (It was like the addition of the Spinner and the gameplay that was added to complement it. The Stallord fight was one of my favorite in Twilight Princess :D)

Pokemon was the title that I eagerly anticipated, and now that it’s out, I’m playing it almost nonstop at any chance I get. I’m taking my sweet time, catching and trading, breeding and training. 🙂 I only have the 5th gym badge, but I don’t want to beat the game quite yet. Enjoy it!

Slimzz: Do you have anything you would like to tell your fans and admirers?

Pamela Horton: First of all, thank you so much for supporting me. Not just as a Playmate, but as a gamer. Ever since my issue came out I’ve had the hardest time trying to prove myself because I’m a girl AND a Playmate. For some reason (because it’s not all that common for gamer Playmates like Amelia Talon and me to exist) it’s hard to believe that I’m real, so people question my credibility a lot. Thank you for believing in me and giving me the chance.
