PC Gaming Show Recap – E3 2018

The lineup is strong, PC gamers have a lot to look forward to this year.

PC Gaming Show packed a lot into their conference this year, announcing a wide variety of games that should cater to most folk. Let’s dive right in.


Release Date: TBA, closed alpha on satisfactorygame.com

Coffee Stain Studios’ latest sci-fi game has a unique, almost cell-shaded aesthetic. It seems to be a survival game which incorporates a lot of the anticipated landscape destruction and modification we expected from similar titles. The heavy emphasis on manufacturing and landscape transformation reminds one of Factorio. Putting a planet on a conveyor belt, one resource and critter at a time.


Release Date: TBA

From the brand new studio Chance Industry, neo-cab is an explorative look at a dying breed of independent workers. You shouldn’t let it’s colourful cyber-punk aesthetic fool you, it’s themed are quite sad and isolating. Many of your pickups have never seen a human driver before. Being rated by all these passengers in an attempt to locate a missing friend will determine your success. It’s an interesting spin on the investigative genre.

Mavericks Proving Grounds

Release Date: 

Automaton Game’s Mavericks PG will allow up to 1000 concurrent players. They’re also pushing a five-man squad mode.

Mavericks is another Battle Royale, with a similar aesthetic to PUBG. From the trailer, however, we’re looking at environmental destruction and a bit of a cyberpunk aesthetic. The whole thing seems to be set Fires start dynamically with player destruction, and walls are destroyed to expose others.

The Forgotten City

Release Date: TBA

A re-imagining of a classic mod, the Forgotten city is a horrifying foray into an ancient underground city. The concept is interesting if even one person commits a sin, everyone in the city dies. Every time this apocalyptic end occurs, you come back to the beginning. This allows you to gradually gain citizen’s

Star Control Origin

Release Date: Available for pre-order to play early today.

Stardock has a new interstellar action RPG. Follows the story of the lexites, born of the singularity. Star-control is an international space station tasked with the exploration of space and the protection of the earth. The aesthetic of the game is hit or miss and is quite comical. The game promises thousands of planets for exploration, being quite reminiscent of Mario Galaxy.

Hunt: Showdown – Latest update

A vintage Crossbow added to the game, as well as throwing knives and a hand crossbow. Sticky bombs are making their way into the game, allowing for some creative flushing out of enemies.

Archangel Hellfire

Release Date: July 17, 2018

3 maps, 6 different mechs and destructive environments sound exciting? It’s a team-deathmatch game based on free-roaming pvp, and it’s coming July 17.

The Sinking City

Release Date: TBA

Frogwares’ The Sinking City has been on our radar for a bit. The open-world investigation game inspired by the lore of Lovecraft sounds SUPER exciting. Investigations, as the creative director confirmed, is at the core of the game.

What does that look like? There is no clear handholding. It is up to the player to take notes on evidence, as it looks like the game gives you none in an automatic journal. Finding the clues will help you change the course of the world itself.

Sega port recap

Release Date: Through 2018 and 2019. Yakuza 0 available for pre-order now, releasing in early August.

Sega has a lot in store for PC gamers this year. Vanquish and Bayonetta having made their way to PC, Sega now turns to bring Shenmue 1 and 2, as well as Shining Resonance: Refrain. To that list, they are adding Yakuza 0 and Valkyria Chronicles 4.

The Summer Sideshow: Treacherous Skies

Release Date: Today

This newly revealed update for Killing Floor 2 by Tripwire is centred on a dystopian vision of the future, and a heavy steampunk aesthetic. It’s a team-based defence game where you’ll be taking on clowns and robots. Weapons available for players are all pleasingly over-the-top.


Release Date: TBA

Blindside’s newly announced game is a looker, being published by Tripwire! The game allows you to take on the role of a Shark on a vacation resort. You. Are. The. Shark. An open world action RPG. This is going to be great. There are shark skill trees and a full single-player campaign.

Bravery Network Online

Release Date: TBA

This lovely hand-drawn battle game is very reminiscent of Scott Pilgrim v. the world. It’s a cross between RPG side-battling and a rap battle, which we all need in our lives.


Release Date: June 11th, 2018

Untitled Publishers Game’s simplistic Metroidvania is centred on gunplay seems interesting to say the least. You seem to seek out crystals which summon boss enemies and have a limited amount of tries to take down bosses.

Jurassic World Evolution

Release Date: June 12th, 2018

The long-awaited game is almost here. Wanted to build your own dinosaur trap for tourists? You’ll be able to soon. The building goes beyond simply park management, extending to the research and development of the park.


Release Date: TBA

Insomniac’s latest VR game attempts to bridge the gap with open-world gameplay. You play as a friendly robot attempting to preserve the wildlife when he’s mercilessly gunned down. Rebooting despite yourself, you attempt to put yourself back together and learn more about the world on which you live. The variety of environments seems staggering, and there’s a lot of traversals which relies on VR. How this will work in the end is still hard to tell, but it seems to rely a lot on where the player puts their hands, allowing you to glide down mountains at will.

Insomniac has also hinted at multiplayer exploration.

Night Call

Release Date: TBA

The noir game by Raw Fury which takes place in Paris goes very well with the dark synth playing in the trailer. What little information we know about the game seems to center on taxi driving and investigation.


Release Date:

The open-world exploration game published by Raw Fury has a simplistic but appealing art-style, seemingly pulled from traditional comics like Tintin. On a glider, you explore a world of destruction and the temples which adorn it. This temple exploration seems to revolve around puzzle solving and little combat.

Star Citizen

Release Date: Alpha 3.2 coming soon. The full game, we still have no idea.

Well, it’s been a hell of a ride, and we have a new Star Citizen trailer on our hands. As many before it, it centers on the variety of worlds to explore and the seamless transfer from a space station, to ship, to a planet. It’s impressive, but the footage has been for a while now.

What we get this year is a heavier focus on segments that would fit into a campaign, introducing powerful factions and putting maverick forces on display.

Genesis: Alpha One

Release Date: 9.04.19

This new sci-fi game seems to center on wave-based combat within a space station. You expand your ship and explore planets for resources and to experiment with alien DNA and abilities. It looks like a hell of a good time.

Don’t Starve: Hamlet

Release Date: December 2018

The latest in the series seems centred on ruins and dangerous traps. The pigs have become civilized and formed cute little villages where you can shop and be robbed! If Wilson was suddenly Hemingway, we’d get this game.

Overkill’s The Walking Dead and Telltale’s Final Season

Release Date: November 6th, 2018 (Overkill), TBA 2018.

505 Games had a big surprise for us this year, based on an apocalyptic vision of the future that is the Walking Dead. Heavy emphasis on team-play.

Telltale talks about their last season, where Clementine finds an abandoned school where no adults are allowed. The threats are multiple, from zombies to adults who want to breach the walls.


Release Date: TBA

An action rogue-lite where every pixel is physically simulated. The concept is great, and the magic that animates it seems even more interesting. You play as a man making your way through dangerous dungeons armed only with your wit.

Two Point Hospital

Release Date: TBA 2018.

Based on the beloved theme hospital, TPH. It’s a hospital management game where you run a fictive world, exploring different regions and different diseases. You do research on these new illnesses and seek to improve both morale for the citizens.

It’s a comical spin on managing illnesses like turtle-head and monobrow infections.

Anno 1800

Release Date: TBA 2018

Grounded in two industrial revolutions, the 19th century has a lot to offer. You begin with medieval settlements and then explore what happened in the era.

The development team also highlighted the involvement of the community in core gameplay and balance changes. You can still vote on anno-union.com to select ships or design your own ship variants.

Rapture Rejects

Release Date: rapturerejects.com for the alpha.

Battle Royale as you’ve never seen it before. Isometric, zany and top-down. Rapture rejects is a spoof inspired by the Cyanide and happiness webcomics. God mistakingly brings to heaven all the criminals of the world and leaves the believers to fight among themselves.

Hitman 2

Release Date: November 13, 2018

The conference ended on a good note, showcasing new content from Hitman 2. Take on a Grand Prix event where both a manager and driver must die. The variety of costumes and weapons put on display was simply fascinating.

The game director was also on display to give more details on the game. They talked about escalation events, as well as challenges and illusion targets. You have one shot, make it count.
