Out of all the EA sports game that came out this year, NHL 16 might be the best one of the series.
The game introduced new features to help new players to the game in every aspect of the game, may it be shooting, passing or even hitting. When you turn on that feature, The screen will be covered with indicators that pinpoint towards the right spots on the net to shoot for, where is the best possible players you should pass to, where you should be skating when you don’t have the puck, when to aggressively poke check, when is the best possible time to lay a hit on an opponent charging towards your net basically this option is put it to help you become a better NHL player if you are a veteran to the game or even a rookie everyone will benefit from this feature.
I had the chance to try out the game at E3 and I immediately realized that the game looked amazing as soon as it started, being from Montreal I had to play with my Canadiens and by a twist of fate my opponent was from Boston and selected the Boston Bruins. You can guess the tension in the air when we saw each other’s team selection (GO HABS GO). The game ran smoothly, it was really fast and fluid, the gameplay itself looked incredible, you see that they put in effort on enhancing the offence part of the game allowing you to create more scoring occasions. They also increased the number of times you create a big hit when tackling an opponent, and you can believe that big hits were part of the game between my opponent and I. Needless to say, just like the results of real life Hockey, I bested my opponent by a score of 5-2 which isn’t that surprising at all as the Habs are simply better than the Bruins.
EASHL returns will also be making a comeback in NHL 16, for those of you who don’t know, this game mode was one of the most popular in the NHL series but was taken out a year ago, developers listened to the fans and brought it back. Here is what you can find about the feature on the website for the game
‘’ Sharpen those skates and grab your buddies because the EA SPORTS Hockey League is back! This fan-favorite online team mode has been reimagined and lets you choose specialized player classes to deliver a balanced competitive experience on the ice. Player skill and your ability to play as a team will now be the determining factor in who wins and loses hockey games.’’
Developers also adjusted the passing system in the game. Until just recently, EA’s NHL games forced skaters into a glide as they received a pass. Players will now have the option to receive a pass while accelerating or even turning. With this new adjustment, players will now be able to create better scoring opportunities off passes because of the smoother gameplay that it brings.
Producer Sean Ramjagsingh had this to say about the game “There’s more control now, in previous games you’d always have to go into a glide to receive the pass. Then you could accelerate or stop or whatever. Now, when you get a pass, you can say, ‘OK, I want to stop and go the other way as I receive the pass.’ Or, ‘I want to accelerate and take the pass while I’m accelerating.’ Or, ‘I want to keep the puck.’
I really enjoyed playing the game and I feel that this one will bring back the NHL franchise to its former glory following a disappointing NHL 15 that saw fans angry from all the features that were taken out of it. I however am still waiting on one thing from EA and it is the ability to part take in the All-Star skills competition as your favorite player just like in the past NBA live games where you could join the Dunk contest or even the three point shot contest.
The game will be released on1080p for both the Xbox One and PS4 platforms this September 15th 2015.
