For a while now, people have been leaking, speculating and theorizing on this secret project called the PlayStation Neo. Will Sony finally reveal it?
Hold on to your hats because Sony is going to take the stage on September 7th at the PlayStation Theater in New York to reveal their plans for the not-so-distant future. Of course, we must learn to expect the unexpected and as such, let us count down the possible topics Sony will cover at the event.
PlayStation 4 Neo:
Of course, the most obvious and most requested news is no doubt the unveiling of the Neo; a console that was confirmed to be an upgraded PlayStation 4. With the Microsoft having dropped the bomb on their next project: Scorpio and the release of the Xbox One S, the spotlight is now turned to Sony to watch their next move.
For now, we know this but only an upgrade to the existing PlayStation 4 and it offers a substantial boost to hardware capabilities. It is said that the Neo will offer a whopping 4.1 teraflops to the original’s 1 teraflop. This will give developers more power to work with to build their designs and improve graphics even further. However, all games that will release on Neo will be playable on PS4. Therefore, the game will always be made to be supported on the PS4 and never made exclusive to Neo.
The console will prove to be attractive to the technology fanatic who has to play it all on the latest specs. This mid-cycle upgrade is most likely only helping the console live longer and offer better quality for the coming years with no pressure on purchasing it on day one. Microsoft’s Project Scorpio is also to be an upgraded Xbox One; another mid-cycle upgrade.
PlayStatoin 4 Slim:
Speaking of upgrades, Sony has aways had the habit of releasing a smaller, slimmer, version of its consoles a few years after release. The PlayStation 4 Slim has been seen all over the internet including sketches, reports and even an online video showing an unboxing. At this point, it is very hard not to believe. I doubt someone took the liberty of fabricating rumors, reports all over the internet and built a physical model to unbox with. That would be absurd.
We should definitely expect an official unveiling as well as a release date right before the holidays.
The only confirmed thing that Sony could expand upon for filling the time slot. We already know that the HMD will be hitting store shelves on October 13th. Some games will be getting VR upgrades available for early adopters. Also, some past and future games will be getting VR content introduced with it as well.
For the Neo, VR games will be playable on both PS4 and the new console since it is an upgraded version of it. If Neo is revealed, Sony could then show off some VR gameplay on Neo for comparison to what we have seen so far.
There you have it! Beyond these major subjects, Sony will no doubt be showing some of the titles that will be releasing in the coming months leading up to the Holidays. This includes Final Fantasy XV, Battlefield 1, The Last Guardian and many more. What do you want to see announced at the Sony event? Are we going to hear more titles who will not be releasing in the near future? (Crash Bandicoot, Final Fantasy VII? Please!)
