During the D23 2017, Kingdom Hearts III finally gets another trailer and with it, a release window.
A new trailer details a brand new world to be discovered in Kingdom Hearts III. For the first time, Sora and friends will get to adventure alongside Woody in Andy’s room. Furthermore, this new trailer shows off more combat sequences and weapons.
To watch the trailer in its entirety:
Other worlds include Olympus of course as we enjoy seeing brand new graphics. During the reveal of Woody and Andy’s room, we saw Sora, Donald and Goofy fight off some Heartless. During this fight, you can notice Sora firing off a Blizzard spell and then jumping onto the icicle itself, triggering a Flowmotion off of it. This can include to some sweet combos during combat if we see more ingenious ways of mixing magic and physical combat.
Woody, Buzz Lightyear and friends will be joining Sora and his crew to fight the Heartless and Organization XIII. During the trailer, we saw Sora go even outside of Andy’s house. Later on, some more weapons have been shown off and they were all themed in the same style of Toy’s Story. It seems that all these weapons and styles will differ in each world Sora visits. Perhaps that is the true power behind the new suit.
At the end of the trailer, Sora shares a conversation with one of the many versions of Xehanort. Only when the trailer ends that we see that Kingdom Hearts III will be releasing in 2018 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
More details on the keyblade transformations have been shared by game director and franchise creator Tetsuya Nomura. It seems the transofmrations are specific to each keyblade and not to each world. Also, each keyblade will be able to transform twice in mid-combat. Here are more details shared by Nomura-san:
“First and foremost, each keyblade will have its own form that it can transform into, and it’s different per keyblade. There are at least two different forms it can take. For example, in Toy Story, you saw the giant hammer and then the drill. Another one was at the beginning of the trailer where you saw Sora shoot arrows and it [then] turned into a bazooka, so there are two different forms. It also has multiple layers in terms of transforming; you start out with your first phase of transformation, and if you successfully connect your combos, the [next] transformation will happen.”
“If I could provide a glimpse, I’ve made it more pretty. Not just the literal modeling, but it’s more about how we’re expressing it that has become more pretty,” he said.
