Welcome Adam Jensen back in his latest adventure yet. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is the latest iteration in the franchise and it looks gorgeous.
Deus Ex in all its glory will be experienced on Xbox One, PS4 and PC in 2016. For now, let us share with you what is new this time around courtesy of E3 2015.
In a world where discrimination reigns, the fight for the Enhanced’s rights still goes on. When everything was finally coming together for equality to be reached, terrorism comes in and creates the worst political image for the Enhanced, effectively ruining all progress in giving them the civil rights they so rightly deserve. Today, enhanced humans like Jensen are forced to live in ghettos with total police surveillance. It is up to the international covert agent, Adam Jensen, to find the Illuminati and stop them in their tracks. This time around, Jensen is even more enhanced this time around, becoming the real human 2.0. He will be taking the role of a double agent because he believes that the anti-terrorist task force he works is now being manipulated by the Illuminati. Now, without further ado, let us get into the actual gameplay demo.

Jensen is stronger, faster and better equipment than ever. Taking advantage of these improve the gameplay pillars known in the Deus Ex series: combat, hacking, stealth and social choices that affect the outcome. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided really wants to allow players play in any way they want. You can go full combat, full stealth or mix of both. You can even finish the game without having to kill a single person. The game will feature deep exploration and social hub, but those weren’t included in the demo.
To begin, we were able to see how stealth aspect has upgraded. There will be different kinds of ammunition such as EMP rounds which can used to render machinery completely dysfunctional. This is very effective if you want to keep a low profile by shooting these rounds on a camera for example. Like past games, Adam can activate his cloaking ability to pass by enemies unseen. One thing that was highlighted to us was that the game fully supports different kinds of solutions and approaches. Observing the environment and characters around you can help you decide how you want to complete objectives. They can be done in any the player sees fit. If you look hard enough, you may find characters who may even help you complete objectives by listening to them. One new weapon is a non-lethal Tesla gun-arm. This can target four enemies and knock them out instantly without killing them. Another new augmentation added is the ability to dash to faraway places. This is very helpful to get to better ground. It can also be used offensively by knocking down enemies. Other augmentations also include remote hacking, a blade that can be shot from Jensen’s arm and even the famous Icarus Strike. Jensen also has a new hacking interface. This allows for new possibilities like traps, new software and more. Adam also has a scanning vision, which allows him to see objectives, enemies and ammo as they will be highlighted. Now, we get in the more combat-oriented enhancements.
As soon as we got in the action, we were quickly shown that Jensen is equipped with a Titan shield armor that covers his body. It stays on for a short time and can withstand heavy fire. It is also important to note that the environment is destructible. This means some covers can destroyed with gunfire and players should be careful what they stand behind. You can also customize your weapons on the go, which can allow for more possible solutions for players. Not only are there different bullet types, but grenade types as well. You can outfit your firearm with different ammo type, upgrades and more without having to pause the game.
The social decisions aspect of the game has been worked on and that translates to the gameplay as well. This is highlighted in the conversation with Rucker. Had we won the conversation, we couldn’t escaped safely and gotten intel. However, since we failed it, the alarm was sounded and our escape becomes a lot more challenging. Adam can also activate Focus Mode in a pinch. This will allow players to slow down everything around them in order to take out enemies efficiently. As we busted our way through, our gameplay demo had to come to an end. We were still able to enjoy a good session of the new Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.
The game really does react to how the player chooses to play the game. Being able to choose how you want approach your objective is very pivotal in Deus Ex and to adapt to the situation is very important. Mankind Divided is going to be a very interesting title to keep a lookout for all you Action-RPG fans. Adam Jensen returns in 2016.
