Armello is a multiplayer card and board game for PC and PS4 developed and published by League of geeks at E3 2015.
Armello is an epic adventure that combines RPG elements with the strategic play of card and board games, creating your own amazing personal story and experience inside a fantastic world of creatures, light and darkness.
You have the opportunity to choose a Hero from one of the four animal clans: Rat, Rabbit, Bear or Wolf. Players navigate their fully animated 3D characters across the board as they quest, scheme, explore, Vanquish monsters, perform the mad King’s royal edictsm and face off against other players, with one ultimate end goal in mind, becoming the King or Queen of Armello.
There is no straight forward way to play this game, you create your own story as there is mutlitple ways to progress and earn the throne. You can choose to quest and level up your character as you adventure into the Armello board game, or you can decide to move around and try to capture 4 stones that will make you way stronger and powerful. You can also hide in the shadows until the very final fight for the throne and as the two fighters dies for the title you manage to sneak in the middle and get crowned King or Queen of Armello. Imagine Game of Thrones, but it is you, that create your own story, that chose who dies and lives, there is no bad or good decision, isn’t that amazing?
Each player has three moves, you can move your characters three spaces every turn and try to get to a quest or another objectives of your choice. At the beginning of every turn, you have a choice from three deck of cards, Magic Spells, Items and Trickery. Depending on what you want to focus on, your playstyle will change. There is cards that make you reveal traps around the board, or cards that make you able to put a bounty on another player’s head. Your maximum cards depends on your character and the progress you made in the game. As you move through the map you need to watch out for tons of way to get attacked or killed. One of them being the Royal guard in search of character with a bounty on their head.
At the end of a turn you can choose between two “rules”, in example when I was playing the game I got a very rare card that made me, when in my inventory, invulnerable to Banes, a vicious dark creature sent by the King at night to kill and hunt whatever it sees, one of the choice I had was to have the king send three banes on the board during the night and since I was immune to them I could walk around without worrying about them which is a huge advantage.
As you wonder on the board you may get ambushed or you ambush someone and force a fight. If you get ambushed you are not able to do anything on the first attack and your cards are locked. A Normal fights start with both players being able to choose to attack with cards or use spells and then roll dices. The winner will earn prestige that increase the reputation you have in the world of Armello, losing them will reduce it.
There is multiple dangerous traps in the game, when I was playing I was lucky enough to get a trap that wasn’t so bad, I had to roll three dice correctly out of the five that I had, and if I won I was able to remove the trap, if not I was being teleported far away into the mountains and lose the advantage I had on the board. Obviously I won!
There is a lot of potential in this game to become a popular eSports game and I can’t wait to try it even more with the early access game on Steam. Stay connected for more information on the game and soon the stream of the game by IMGMR.
Armello will be released in September 2015 on PC and PS4 and the early access is available since January 2015 on Steam.
