What makes MMOROPGs so interesting? The quests? The Story? The freedom to do as you please? For years, the genre has granted players many compelling experiences and now, Minecraft has entered that territory with Wyncraft, a home-brewed MMORPG built within the extensive world of Minecraft.
Wynncraft might sound new to some, so here is a little insight about it. Basically, it is a game within a game; Wynncraft is a world created on a private Minecraft server that players can access for free. All you need is a legitimate copy of Minecraft, head over to join the “Wynncraft” server, add play.wynncraft.com in the server address and you should be good to go. Wynncraft is just like any other MMORPG; it features leveling up systems, quests, guilds, a large map, mobs and boss, and a whole load more.
The game has been in development since its early build dated early May 2013. Since then, the game has been subject to many updates, until it was ready for the public. Earlier in April, a new Corkus update was installed, giving players more dungeons to tackle, new quests, better loot crates, and more. For the past few days now, the game has been gaining popularity and at the time I am typing this, there are well over a thousand players online.
Having the community and developer experiment with Minecraft is, in my opinion, a good step to take towards making something a lot more complex. Minecraft is in part quite simplistic, but with the proper tools, one can make something very grand with it. Wynncraft is a good example of how you can fully exploit the tools sandbox games give you…plus its free.
As a fan of MMORPG myself, I will definitely go and check it out. The question now that remains is whether or not does it have elements to back it up as a GOOD MMORPG? That is what I can’t wait to find out!
By the way, feel free to comment in the section below what you think about Wynncraft and your thoughts regarding the fact that the game is free.
