This Tuesday, US-Stormrage guild Fast Forward achieved Realm First on defeating Xavius in The Emerald Dream in the second most populated server in World of Warcraft.
After getting in touch with the leader of the group, Ryan “Lilsomb”, we wanted to learn more about this extraordinary feat. First, let’s hear about the guild behind this achievement, Fast Forward.
“<Fast Forward> has been around since the start of WoD (Warlords of Draenor),” said Lilsomb. “We’ve adhered to a strictly 3day/week schedule up until this raid. We saw how quickly guilds were getting through it, and in light of Blizzcon approaching soon, we though it appropriate to add an extra 3 hours on Monday for 2 weeks to clear the tier/instance.”
Of course, the bosses are no laughing matter. The fight against Xavius requires a lot of coordination with your team, given the multiple mechanics that phases that need to be faces. Needless to say, you can’t really clear it on your first go.
“Mythic Xavius took us 18 attempts to kill. We put in 11 on Monday night, then extended the lockout and did 7 pulls on Tuesday 10/11/2016 to kill it within an hour of getting to it. So in total, we spent about 1.5 hours on the boss. With ~5-6 hours of prep work, strats, analyzing logs and videos in between Monday night and Tuesday night.”
“This fight itself was actually remarkably underwhelming, the most difficult part of the fight is getting past the seemingly random 1-shots in Phase 1 of the fight. From that point forward, it’s eerily similar to Heroic, the only difference being the Mythic version of the “Dream Simulacrum” where you can choose the players to be affected by the Dream State at any given time. Once those 4 groups of 5 people know what they’re doing, the fight becomes trivial.”
Fast Forward progresses relatively great through the content Blizzard shipped on the first weeks of the new Legion expansion. The guild achieved “Realm First! Cutting Edge”, “Realm First! Keystone Master” – this is granted by being the first guild in a server to complete a Mythic Dungeon +15. Fast Forward was actually not only the first in Stormrage to get this last achievement, but also the first in the world.
What is next for the guild?
“Our next step is going to be preparing for the upcoming raids “Trial of Valor” and “Nighthold”, as well as doing sale runs of Mythic and Heroic Emerald Nightmare in the interim.”
Is Xavius the hardest boss of the instance?
“Interesting enough, the post-buff Il’gynoth is arguably the hardest boss in the instance, tied with Cenarius. If I had to rank them, I’d put it as; Cenarius ≥ Il’gynoth (Post Buff) > Dragons of Nightmare > Ursoc > Xavius > Elerethe > Nythendra. The buff to Il’gynoth that forces raids/players to deal with the 2nd intermission phase of the fight should have been implemented from the start of the instance’s release. But other than that, Cenarius is definitely the King of this instance.”
Do you have any comments you would like to share with Blizzard concerning The Emerald Nightmare?
“My comments on the Emerald Nightmare raid would be… Please. PLEASE be more prepared and tune Nighthold/Trial of Valor better. Titanforged items/loot as well as the 3rd relic slot made Emerald Nightmare trivial, it would have been a tough raid/instance if we weren’t already 870 iLvl raidwide by the time we got to Mythic Xavius.”
A lot of players out there are also looking at defeating Xavius on Mythic. Do you have any advice to share with those players?
“My advice would be to stick with it; if you’re struggling, stop. Take a 5 minute break. Analyze your logs, find the problem and fix it before moving forward. Keep your eyes on Brambles (Cenarius), and respect your raid leader. ;)”
