The Overwatch Team recently addressed the issue of console users using mice and keyboards as a gaming solution in Overwatch.
Lately, the issue of console users playing Overwatch using their mouse and keyboard and third party input conversion devices has caused uproars. The problem in questions causes some players to end up in unfair matches where they must face players using mice and keyboards versus the tradition console input, the controller. Gamers around the world understand the advantage brought by the PC peripherals on console.
The issue linked all the way back to Blizzard, where the official Overwatch team addressed the concerns via a post on their online forum.
“The Overwatch team objects the use of mouse and keyboard on console.
We have contacted both first-party console manyfacturers and expressed our concern about the use of mouse and keyboard and input conversion devices. We have lobbied and will continue to lobby for first-party console manufacturers to either:
Disallow mouse and keyboard and input conversion devices
Openly and easily support mouse and keyboard for ALL players
I encourage you to reach out to the hardware manufacturers and express your concerns (but please do so in a productive and respectful way).” – Jeff Kaplan, Overwatch Game Director
PC users already have a choice to either use a controller or the traditional peripherals. However, the same cannot be said for console users…yet. It might sound unlikely at the moment for Microsoft and Sony to “openly and easily support mouse and keyboard for all players”, but given the large amount of players and potentially large number of requests, we might see something positive happen.
We will continue to monitor the case and wait for the console manufacturers’ response to the issue.
Stay tuned as we keep you in the loop.
