Who is Goku Black? Ever since this new character came along, questions regarding his origins have been exploding.
In the latest update of my theory, I tackle the idea that Black “is actually an android vessel used by Mira to collect information and power.” Right before his fight with Goku, after using the Time Ring to visit the past, Black says something quite disturbing. “I also wanted to fight you in this body”, said the new Goku. Additionally, Black seems to be able to absorb power, a feat only few, and androids, are capable of in the Dragon Ball universe.
How much of this do I still believe it to be true? Well, I still defend the idea that Black is a vessel create by a stronger being. However, I am holding back on the possibility that Mira is behind this saga. Allow me to update my theory a little!
In Episode 53, Beerus, accompanied by Whis and Goku, head for a planet on Universe 10. Once they arrive, they meet with Kaioshin Gowasu and soon to be Kaioshin Zamasu. The trio are greeted fairly well, for the exception of Goku, who seems to be looked down upon by Zamasu.
A Hatred Toward Humans
From the get go, Dragon Ball Super introduces Gowasu and Zamasu. In what appears to be a very peaceful location, Zamasu prepares tea for the elder. “Tea brewed by the pure-hearted is free of imperfection and truly delicious,” says Gowasu. Dragon Ball wanted to set the tone early and identify the soon-to-be Kaioshin as a pure-hearted being.
Right after, Zamasu questions his position as guardian, asking why humans must be protected. Deep down, Zamasu has a hatred towards humans. A similar feeling can be perceived by Black. Unknowingly, Zamasu meets with Goku, which he finds obnoxious. After a quick spar, Zamasu loses.
Whis, points out something major during their return to Earth: “That cold heart he was suppressing and that ki he unleashed… that was more than enough to give credibility to our suspicion that Zamasu is Black.” This confirms that Zamasu is tied with Black, on a personal level, but there is still a mystery behind this scheme.
At the end of the episode, Gowasu questions Zamasu’s feeling toward humans. Although he still hates them from the bottom of his heart, from what we have learned, he is capable of hiding his feelings. Gowasu asks him to pour some more tea.
No Knowledge of the Rings
Upon their arrival, Beerus and Whis ask about the Time Rings – they wish to see it up close and in person. At that moment, Zamasu doesn’t look like he knows what they are talking about. Whis, as observant as ever, notices that.
In my opinion, Zamasu was able to suppress his knowledge to make it look as though he didn’t know what the Time Rings were.
How is Zamasu Black?
Following his encounter with Goku, Zamasu’s hate for humans seemed to have increased. I believe that he used the power of the Time Ring to go into the future, when Goku was sick and weak, and fuse with him. This explains Black’s ability to use the ring, well, to some extent. Also, in a sequence when Goku tried to attack Zamasu with an energy ball, the Kaio’s Ki exploded – it looks like he was able to absorb the attack the same way Black did when he fought Goku.
Whis confirms it, Zamasu is Black. The mystery, in my opinion, is that Zamasu used the Time Ring to fuse with Goku’s body.
